ðŸ”ĨHovering Inferno

The Hovering Inferno is the final and only custom boss in the Nether. Shown wearing a Netherite helmet and surrounded by 4 identical banners, similar to shields, that cycle around himself, the Hovering Inferno is a powerful entity who deserves its final boss title.

Disclaimer!

Only one instance of the hovering inferno can be on the server this is not that big of an issue atm but in the future it will be. No need to fret though! If we do grow to that point we will expand and have multiple lil servers where you can fight the boss. We're just lacking funds to do that atm.

Location

It can be summoned and re-summoned by throwing a Nether star in the middle of any Infernal altar, which can be found in the Infernal dunes biomes.

Fight

The Hovering Inferno fight is inspired by bullet hell games like Touhou. The Hovering Inferno has more health than the Ender Dragon or Wither boss, without counting its invincibility phase, and should be considered has one of the most difficult vanilla-like boss, while staying an actually winnable and fair fight.

Phase 1

Phase 1 consists of mainly attacks done by the Hovering Inferno, moving around random spots in the arena and stopping before launching its attacks. Those include shooting skulker bullets, fireballs, fire and fireworks, in wavy but precise patterns around himself. He also has the ability to summon Infernal Minions, Evoker fangs and Desert blazes in the arena. Once the Hovering Inferno's health is depleted, the Hovering Inferno moves to the second phase.

Phase 2

Upon the Hovering Inferno's revival, a note block remix of the song called "Border of Life" from Touhou : Perfect Cherry Blossom begins to play while the Hovering Inferno teleports to the middle of the arena. During this phase, the Hovering Inferno slowly loses health and is invulnerable to attacks by the player. The player needs to survive to win by dodging the two lasers coming from the Hovering Inferno, both going clock-wise with one staying at feet-height of the player and the other passing just over the player's head, forcing you to sneak to dodge it, while some Skulker Bullets with the glowing effect are shot by the Hovering Inferno.

Loot

What's up with all the feathers?

The Infernal feather can be used in a smithing table with an elytra to make a more re-inforced version of it. While the Vitality Feather can be traded for a Vitality rune at the rune trader

History

The Hovering Inferno is directly inspired by MOB D from the Minecon Earth 2017 Mob vote, also called Wildfire.

"This boss battle was largely inspired by Touhou bosses, which is where I got the 'spell card' mechanic, as well as the bullet hell-type attacks which are used a few times."

This was further confirmed when the Hovering Inferno final attack was changed and now plays the song called "Border of Life" from Touhou : Perfect Cherry Blossom during it.
